Fire Alarm Maintenance

Fire Alarm System planned preventative maintenance involves comprehensive inspections and tests of your fire safety infrastructure, which encompass the entire system from detectors and control panels to wiring and battery backups and is crucial for ensuring its reliability and effectiveness. This proactive approach helps identify any potential issues or weaknesses before they compromise the system's performance during an emergency. By adhering to this schedule, we not only ensure compliance with current regulatory standards but also extend the lifespan of your fire alarm system while minimising the risk of unexpected failures. Our thorough maintenance services provide peace of mind, knowing that your fire alarm system is always prepared to protect lives and property.

What does a PPM visit include?
During a Fire Alarm PPM visit, our engineer will carry out the following:
-
Update the logbook with details of our attendance.
-
Check all entries in the logbook for any changes since our last visit.
-
Check with the responsible person of any alterations to the building or changes in use of the building.
-
The fire alarm system will be put into a test mode with the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC)(if the fire alarm system is monitored). This allows us to test the alarm without causing any false alarms to the ARC or emergency services.
-
Inspect the fire alarm panel for any damage, tampering or abnormalities.
-
Check all back up batteries are in date and are functioning correctly in the event of any power loss.
-
Activate each manual call point individually to check they are working and functioning correctly in the event of any power loss.
-
Activate all the fire doors and the automatic closers to ensure they all retract back to the closed position.
-
Check each smoke detection device to trigger the alarm state and ensure the device is within the operational date.
-
Check each heat detection device to trigger the alarm state and ensure the device is within the operational date.
-
Inspect all detection devices for damage and clean all detection devices using industry standard cleaning equipment.
-
Test all sounding devices are producing the correct levels of sound and the sound level readings are satisfactory in areas covered by the fire alarm system certificate.
-
Test all visual strobe beacons.
-
Ensure the correct and legal signage is displayed throughout the premises covered by the fire alarm system.
-
Check and ensure the correct remote signals are being received by the ARC (if the fire alarm system is monitored).
-
Ensure the fire alarm system complies with the British Standard 5839 and notify the responsible person, via the logbook, of any recommendations to ensure adherence to the relevant standards.
-
Ensure we consider the guidance in section 3 of British Standard 5839 in relation to an unacceptable number of false alarms.
